Description of work
-
Definition of the scenarios and applications of interest: Analyse and quantitatively assess the requirements and the constraints related to different scenarios for applications and services of systems based on sensor networks. Even though the proposed technique has a wide applicability base, the analysis will focus on the requirements for applications like: temperature monitoring, for fire detection or prediction; detection or prediction of terrain movements, for landslide prediction; gas leakage detection and localization.
Requirements for the sensor network: define the main requirements on the sensor network coming from physical constraints and limited amount of available resources. The study will quantify the factors impacting on the subsequent network design and development, such as the definition of the network topologies (as fixed, random or mixed topologies may differently impact on the implemented algorithms an the associated radio resources), definition of the reaction time (as different services may pose severe limitations to the network reaction/estimation time), definition of the metrics for the network reliability/estimation performance as well as the requirements for the network fault tolerance capabilities.

Requirements on components : as input to WP5 (sensor node prototype), a survey of the suitable COTS components and sensors will be carried out aiming at exploring the elements, tools and IPs reusable in the subsequent sensor node manufacture activity. Viable paths for interfacing available transducers and sensor nodes prototype in WP5 will be established.
